Trade between India and Pakistan at Integrated Check Post at international Attari border, which has been moving at a slow pace for the past few days, picked up after the intervention of customs authorities here.
"Trade with Pakistan had been moving at a slow pace for the past few days due to certain issues between traders and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) as well as lack of infrastructure," said an Amritsar-based trader Rajdeep Uppal.
"Now with the intervention of customs authority at Amritsar, CWC has agreed to pay for damage of goods and will stand responsible of all kinds of wear and tear or any loss during import and export with Pakistan," Uppal said.
"From today onwards, trade became normal with the assurance from CWC and custom authority which would write to Commerce Ministry to provide mandatory infrastructure at international Attari border," he said.
Uppal said traders have been demanding installation of scanners at the Integrated Check Post to prevent smuggling of contraband.
Traders feel there is a dire need for expansion of existing warehousing facilities at the ICP in the light of rising volume of trade between the two counties, he added.
