Trade severely affected for want of smaller denominations

Chamber of Commerce Puducherry has sought the intervention of the Puducherry government to relieve the traders and also public at large of the current hardships they faced following demonetisation of high value currency notes in the denomination of Rs 1000 and Rs 500.

President of the Chamber of Commerce here K A Shenbakarajan has in his letter to the Chief Secretary to Puducherry government today focused the hardships the traders and public at large were facing both in standing in serpentine queues before the banks.

The currency available to them was in the denomination of Rs 2000. The public and traders are not able to transact their routine works as currencies in smaller denominations were not available.
 

Shenbakarajan who distributed the copy of his letter to media persons also pointed out that since last one week after demonetisation was announced trade was thrown out of gear.

He appealed to the Chief Secretary to intervene and give advice or suggestion to the appropriate authorities to look into the situation prevailing after demonetisation and arrange for availability of currencies in smaller denominations through banks so that the public and traders would feel it easy to carry on their routine activities.
