Trade union groups today staged a protest against the proposed changes in various labour laws by the Central government which they alleged were "anti-working class."
In the memorandum submitted to the Central Labour Minister, the trade union groups highlighted the proposed amendments in Factories Act, Apprentice Act and Contract Labour (R&A) Act saying, "these amendments are retrograde and anti-working class as they push a large section of workers out of ambit of these laws and facilitate the employers to hire and fire at free will."
Demanding the withdrawal of the bill amending the Apprentice Act and reversal of the government's position on the proposed amendments, the memorandum mentioned the changes as "distinctly in favour of the employers and are largely against the interest of the working class."
"The protest was organised by four trade union groups and the gathering was addressed by leaders of IFTO,NTUI, AICCTU and TUCI and around 250 people were present at the gathering," said President IFTU (Delhi Committee), Animesh Das.
