Trader shot dead in Virar, cash looted

A rice trader was shot dead by three unidentified persons outside his shop in Virar last night, police said today.

The victim was identified as Ashok Ratanlal Shah (50).

As he collected the cash of Rs 7 to 8 lakh and stepped out of his shop at the day's end, the assailants approached and pushed him inside.

One of them pulled out a revolver and fired at him from point blank range, while the other two snatched the bag containing the cash.

The three escaped on a motorbike, leaving an injured Shah on the road.

Shah was taken to hospital by two others who were with him where he died during the treatment.
 

Police have launched a manhunt for the trio.
