Many traders in the city today assembled at the collectorate to protest against the proposed Goods and Service Tax (GST) bill.
The agitating traders handed over a memorandum to the district administration, alleging that the Bill will increase the hardships of the trading community, that is already battling the onslaught of online trade.
Sandeep Bansal, President of Ghaziabad Udyog Vyapari Welfare Association said that the government was trying to impose a three-tier trade formula structure, but the traders want a single-tier tax system.
If the proposed structure of GST is imposed, it will adversely affect medium and small traders and will also increase inflation, Bansal said.
The spurt in online trading and number of shopping malls are also ruining the business of small traders, he added.
