Around 12 traders were today detained when they tried to take out a march towards Civil Secretariat here to protest the alleged impediment created by customs department in the cross-Line of Control trade.

The cross-border traders assembled at Residency Road here and started marching towards the Civil Secretariat, the seat of Jammu and Kashmir government. However, they were stopped by police and 12 protestors were taken into preventive custody.

"We were demanding that customs department should not violate the orders of the Ministry of Home Affairs with regard to cross-LoC trade," General Secretary of the Salamabad-Chakoti Traders Association Hilal Ahmad Turki said.

He said while the Customs officials were allowing products from all over the country to be exported to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, they have stopped import of goods originating from Pakistan.

He said it has severely affected the cross-LoC trade through Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.
