Traders observe bandh against killing of child

Traders of different areas in the district today observed a bandh protesting against the killing of a class VII student, who was charred to death by unidentified persons.

Traders of Sangrur, Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh, Dhuri and Sunam observed the bandh in protest against killing of the child, who was charred to death on Monday in Malerkotla, demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Protestors stopped two trains at Dhuri Junction and a train at Sangrur and also blocked the traffic on Malerkotla-Ludhiana highway, police said.

SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu managed to pursue the agitating parents and relatives of the child for cremation late in evening after transferring Parminder Singh, SHO, Malerkotla-1 and Davinder Singh, SHO, Malerkotla- 2 to the police lines.
 

Local Congress MP Vijay Inder Singla participated in the protest on the highway, while state minister Vijay Kumar Jyani visited Malerkotla to express sympathy with the bereaved family, terming the killing as a deep-rooted conspiracy.

SAD secretary and Rajya Sabha member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh on behalf of Punjab government for erection of a community hall in memory of the child at Malerkotla.
