Traders protest in Lucknow against assault on Kanchal

City traders today staged a a demonstration and observed bandh in protest against the alleged assault on trade leader and former SP Rajya Sabha MP Banwari Lal Kanchal by some lawyers in a local court here.

The traders staged a dharna at GPO in Hazratganj area here and kept their installations closed as a protest demanding immediate arrest of the lawyers who have assaulted Kanchal yesterday.

Kanchal said that a meeting of the district presidents of Akhil Bhartiya Vyapaar Pratindhi Mandal would be held tomorrow in which future course of action would be decided.

He was yesterday allegedly beaten up by a group of lawyers who also broke window panes of his vehicles in a local court here.
 

"For some work Kanchal had gone to the court, where a group of 15-20 lawyers misbehaved with him and damaged window panes of his vehicles", IG, STF Sujeet Pandey said.

Police have registered an FIR in this regard against eight lawyers.

The assault is stated to be the fallout of a dispute between Kanchal and a lawyer over a shop at Latouche road here some days back.
