A Kolkata Traffic Police sergeant was allegedly assaulted by a biker and six of his friends on Panditiya Road in Ballygunge area last night after they were stopped for riding without helmet, police said.
Seven men, all locals, were arrested for their alleged involvement in assaulting the policeman Golak Sarkar late last night, they said. A search for three other persons have also been initiated.
The incident happened at around 12.45 am, when Sarkar and a traffic constable stopped a bike as the riders were not wearing helmets, a senior officer of the department said.

At least 10 men arrived on bikes and challenged Sarkar and the constable.
"They assaulted our officer and tried to snatch his walkie-talkie. The entire incident got recorded on the body camera of Sarkar," he said.
Following the incident, the traffic sergeant lodged a complaint at the Gariahat Police Station and based on the footages from his body camera, seven persons, including the biker, were arrested, the officer added.
Under the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Act, one person driving a two-wheeler without a standard helmet will attract a minimum fine of Rs 100.
