Road and rail traffic was affected for over one hour in NGO colony here today, when a sand-laden lorry got stuck on the railway track at a level crossing.

The axle of the lorry snapped when it tried to cross the level crossing and all efforts of the driver to move the vehicle proved futile, police said.

As a result, vehicular traffic was disrupted and some of the vehicles were diverted via approach roads, as incident happened some eight kms from the city.

A passenger train from Mettupalayam to the city was stopped at Karamadai for nearly an hour, waiting for clearance, they said.

The lorry was removed after unloading the sand and traffic was restored after one and half hour, police added.
