Train services were restored today between Chakia and Mehsi station in Bihar's East Champaran (Motihari) district which was disrupted following derailment of 19 wagons of a goods train by suspected Maoists on Tuesday night.

The railway engineers declared the track between the two stations fit for traffic at 11:30 am following which a goods train was run, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) East Central Railway (ECR) Arvind Kumar Rajak said in a statement.

The Gorakhpur-Sonepur passenger train then went through the section, Rajak said.

The restoration of services was achieved after hard work by railway officials under the guidance of General Manager ECR Madhuresh Kumar, he said.

The ECR CPRO said that about 50 metre of track was damaged due to derailment of 19 wagons of a goods train at 11:35 pm on June 24 night.

The derailment of the goods train laden with iron had taken place at an unmanned crossing number 133, Rajak said.

The derailment of the goods train had come hours before derailment of 12 coaches of New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express at Goldenganj station of Chapra in Saran district that killed four and left 23 others injured.
