Traffic restrictions in place in capital

Traffic restrictions have been put in place in the national capital ahead of US President Barack Obama's visit with roads around ITC Maurya Hotel being shut down for vehicular movement while those leading to Rajpath will remain out of bounds for general public from tomorrow evening.

According to police, general traffic restrictions will remain in place in New Delhi area in view of Republic Day parade and other programmes. It is advised to avoid New Delhi area, C-Hexagon India Gate on January 25 and 26. On January 27, restrictions shall be made on August Kranti Marg and public is requested to avoid August Kranti Marg.
 

"Part of Sardar Patel Marg (both carriageways) -- from Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg till Dhaula Kuan -- will remain closed for general traffic from 9 AM. No traffic will be allowed on C-Hexagon India Gate between Akbar Road and Copernicus Marg. Traffic will also remain closed for a few hours on Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Ashoka Road," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.

Police said the traffic will also be affected on Mathura Road-Bhagwan Das Road and Ring Road.

No vehicle will be allowed to ply on Rajpath after 6 PM tomorrow till the closure of function on January 26. No traffic will be allowed on Tilak Marg, B S Z Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg up to Red Fort after 4:00 AM on the Republic Day.

Republic Day Parade shall start at 9:50 AM from Vijay Chowk and pass through Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg and end at Red Fort Grounds. There will be a related function at India Gate at 9 AM.

The cross traffic on the route of the parade at Dr Dineshnandini Dalmia Chowk (W point) R C Aggarwal Chowk (A Point), Delhi Gate and beyond will be allowed depending upon the progress of the parade.

On January 26, area bounded by Kautilya Marg-Kamal Ataturk Marg-Aurangzeb Road-'Q'-point-Humayun Road-Subramaniam Bharti Marg-Mathura Road-Bhagwan Dass Road-Feroze Shah Road R/A Windsor Place-Ashoka Road-Baba Kharak Singh Marg-Mother Teresa Crescent and Sardar Patel Marg up to Kautilya Marg will be restricted area and only labelled vehicles of the invitees and vehicles of bona fide residents of these areas shall be permitted on Monday from 6 AM to enter till conclusion of the Parade at about 12.30 PM.

"Invitees are requested to follow routes and instructions printed on backside of label to reach the parking lots. For the guidance of the visitors, directional boards for seating enclosures have also been erected at various locations," said Shukla.
