Commuters using the Wazirabad Bridge are most likely to face traffic woes once the Public Works Department (PWD) starts its repair work from March 25, a traffic advisory said today.
The advisory by the Delhi Traffic Police also informed the commuters about the traffic diversions that will be in place once the repair work starts.
AAP MLA from Mangolpuri, Rakhi Birla had raised the matter in the Delhi Assembly, stating that the repair work might lead to traffic chaos.
The Delhi government's Signature Bridge -- connecting the Outer Ring Road on the western bank with the Wazirabad Road on the eastern bank of the Yamuna -- was delayed by eight years and its construction work is now expected to be completed by May this year.
During the repair period, it is likely that the traffic will be heavy on Wazirabad Road, Yamuna Pusta Road and nearby Outer Ring Road, the advisory said, adding that commuters should plan their journey in advance to avoid any kind of inconvenience.
The PWD will start the repair work of Wazirabad Yamuna Bridge from March 25 in three phases of three months each.
In the first phase, the repair work of cantilever portion pavements and cycle track from Khajuri side to Civil Lines will be done, for which, one carriageway of the bridge will be closed.
The entry of heavy vehicles will be restricted on the Wazirabad Yamuna Bridge till completion of repair work, the advisory said.
Those coming from Ghaziabad towards Delhi have been advised to follow alternative routes.
Heavy vehicles destined for Haryana may use Loni Baghpat route. The heavy vehicles destined for Delhi may take Mohan Nagar Link Road (Vaishali) - NH-24 to enter Delhi as Shahdara flyover is also under repair, the city traffic police said.
The light motor vehicles going from Khajuri towards Wazirabad can use the newly constructed Pontoon Bridge and vehicles coming from Wazirabad towards Khajuri can use the available single carriageway of Wazirabad Yamuna Bridge, they added.
