Trai extends date for submitting comments on BharatNet paper

Telecom regulator Trai has extended the date till December 16 for submitting comments on a new model to operationalise BharatNet, which aims to connect all 2.5 lakh panchayats in the country through broadband.

The regulator had come out with a consultation paper on implementation model for BharatNet on November 17 and asked stakeholders to submit comments till December 7.

"The last date for furnishing the comments on the consultation paper on Implementation Model for BharatNet has been extended... Stakeholders are now requested to furnish their comments by December 16, 2015," Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a statement.
 

In the paper, Trai has sought comments on an alternative model of build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis for the project.

The first model used to deploy the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN), whch was renamed BharatNet.
