A train coach caught fire this evening at a yard on the outskirts of the city where it had been parked alongside a number of rakes.
A senior official claimed some "miscreants might have set fire to the coach out of mischief".
"The incident took place at around 17:15 hours near the Subedarganj railway station. Railway personnel raised an alarm upon noticing smoke billowing out and flames erupting from one of the rakes," said Bijay Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of the North Central Railway, headquartered here.

He said, "Fire brigade was immediately informed and the flames were doused after more than an hour. The coach was, meanwhile, detached from other rakes as a precautionary measure."
Replying to a query, he said that "what may have caused the fire would be ascertained after an inquiry. However, we have been informed by the staff manning the yard that they had spotted some miscreants around the spot and they may have set fire to the coach out of mischief".
Though the coach was gutted in the fire, no injury was caused to any person present at the spot nor any damage reported to any of the rakes parked nearby, he added.
