The Chennai-bound Vaigai Express from Madurai was today stopped for nearly two hours at the station here and passengers were evacuated after a call threatening that a bomb had been planted in it, which turned out to be a hoax.

The anonymous call was received at 9.15 AM, railway sources said.

Sniffer dogs were pressed into service for a thorough search.

The sources said the search did not reveal any explosive material and the call turned out to be a hoax.

The train later proceeded to its destination at 10.55 AM, they said.
