A fire broke out in the engine of Kanpur-Jhansi passenger train around 100 km from here this morning, affecting rail traffic on the route for over an hour.
The engine of the passenger train caught fire around 9 AM due to turbine blast while the train was in between Chaura and Kalpi stations, PRO of Jhansi Railways, Neeraj Bhatnagar said.
Following the incident, the loco pilot informed the railway officials and the fire was brought under control within an hour, he said, adding, the train left for Jhansi after its engine was replaced.

No casualties were reported in the incident, he said.
The traffic on the route was dirupted for about an hour and a half but it was soon restored.
Soon after the news of fire broke out, passengers rushed out of the compartments.
The Railway department has directed the authorities to investigate the case.
