Train services between Srinagar and Banihal were suspended by railway authorities for the day today due to "law and order situation" in south Kashmir's Pulwama district following the killing of three militants in an encounter with security forces.
"The train service has been suspended for today due to the prevailing law and order situation in Pulwama where from the trains pass towards Banihal," a Railway official said.
He said the decision was taken in view of apprehensions of protests in the area which may have lead to damage to railway property.

The protestors pelted stones on forces who fired tear smoke shells in retaliation, a police official said.
He said the situation is being brought under control.
The railway official said the authorities would assess the situation later in the day to decide on whether to restart the services tomorrow or not.
