The poor visibility due to the fog slowed down train movement, forcing Northern Railways to reschedule over three dozen trains from and to the national capital.

Many trains were reaching Delhi between 12 to 22 hours late and the worst affected was the busy Delhi-Howrah route.

The late running trains included the Rajdhani Express trains from Howrah, Sealdah, Patna, Bhubaneshwar and Dibrugarh. All these trains arrived in the city seven to eight hours behind schedule.

Railways have rescheduled the departure time of these trains which would depart from here after 11 in the night.

Commuters who were to board such trains had to spend many hours at railway stations in the biting cold, with children among the worst sufferers.

The Railway spokesperson said the affected trains were mostly from eastern states like Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam.

The Mahabodhi Express from Delhi would remain cancelled for tomorrow, he said.
