A two-seater training plane of the Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Institute went missing after it took off from Gondia in eastern Maharashtra this afternoon, ATC sources said.

The aircraft is owned by Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Akademy, Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh).

The air traffic control tried to contact the aircraft pilot Suhel Ansari, but both the aircraft and the pilot remained untraceable, ATC sources told PTI.

The plane took off from Gondia at 12.30 PM on a solo sortie and was to return at 2.45 PM.

Ansari's mobile is also not reachable, sources said.

A search plane failed to trace the missing aircraft.
