Transgenders will be included in the list of beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act in Rajasthan, an official said today.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the task force chaired by state Chief Secretary D B Gupta. There are around 16,500 transgenders in the state as per the Census 2011.
The secretary of the food and civil supply department, Mugdha Sinha, said the department had received a proposal from the state transgenders' welfare board.
In the meeting, a consensus was reached on including families involved in prostitution in the list of beneficiaries. The chief secretary gave directions to officials to identify such families, the official said in a statement.
About 4.58 crore people are in the list of beneficiaries in the state under the Act.
