The United Front of Transport Associations (UFTA), an umbrella body of autorickshaws, taxis, truck, gramin sewa and rural transport vehicles (RTVs), today threatened to take out a rally against the Delhi government on Monday, demanding abolition of parking fee and fare hike.
The association also demanded the government rein in app-based taxi services in the national capital, saying that it is "affecting" the livelihood of auto and yellow-black taxi drivers, and stop issuing permits to app-based cabs.
"We will take out protest rally from Samtha Sthal near Rajghat to Delhi Secretariat on Monday against the city government on our various demands. Government is charging parking fee from trucks, buses, but it has not provided parking areas to them," Kultaran Singh Atwal, president of UFTA, said.
He said the government should increase validity of permit issued to trucks from 10 years to 15 years so that their livelihood is not affected.
"On one hand, the government talks about strengthening public transport, on the other hand it has not issued 10,000 new permits of autos so far.
"Besides, we have also been demanding the government stop app-based taxis as their operation is illegal. They are snatching our livelihood," said Rajendra Soni, vice-president of UFTA.
