The Uttar Pradesh transport department has sought land from district administrations of Ghaziabad, Noida, Hapur and Bulandshar for parking the vehicles seized for violation of Motor Vehicle Act.

Regional Transport Officer Mayank Jyoti today said that letters have been written to the district magistrates of Ghaziabad, Noida, Hapur and Bulandshar for allotment of land to the Transport Department for parking of impounded vehicles in each district.

Till now, respective police stations premises was being used to park the vehicles seized by RTO for violation of MV act.

"Since the practise has been in use for over the years, the police department is now facing space crunch even to park their own vehicles, as their police station premises have converted into junk yard," he said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Yadav said open space in police stations was limited.

A large number of vehicles impounded by RTO department and also unclaimed vehicles could be seen parked at every police station in these districts.

Due to scarcity of space, and left with no option the confiscated vehicles are parked on the road sides which further obstruct the traffic movement, Yadav added.
