Transport dept guard held for taking bribe to not check trucks

A guard of the state transport department here was arrested for allegedly taking bribe from truck operators for allowing their vehicles to pass through the Delhi-Jaipur highway without checking.

Omprakash was arrested last night, an official of the Anti-Corruption Bureau said today.

Omprakash, posted at an outpost at Shahpura in the district, had been taking Rs 1,200-1,300 per truck for some time.

But this time, he demanded Rs 3,000 per truck from operator Ramesh Chaudhary and struck a deal at Rs 80,000 for allowing his 16 trucks to pass.

He was arrested while taking Rs 40,000 as the first instalment, the official said.
 

A raid was conducted at his house and Rs 76,000 was recovered from there.

He was placed under arrest today and is being interrogated, the official said.
