The Delhi government's transport department today seized around 100 school vans and buses that were plying without permits or violating norms, an official of the department said.

Teams of transport department officials checked papers of the school cabs and buses and found that many of them either did not have proper documents or were violating permit conditions, the official said.

Seventy-six vans and 20 buses were seized by the teams for various violations, he said.

Complaints of poor condition of the vans and buses carrying school children are received regularly by the department.

The Motor Vehicles Act and various courts have laid down various conditions for vehicles to be used as school vehicles but these are often flouted by their owners.

Carrying more children than the capacity of the vehicle and flouting safety precautions are quite commonly observed and these are also being checked during the drive, added the officer.
