Two days after a section of taxi drivers in Kolkata went on a flash strike, state transport minister Madan Mitra today invited thousands of taxi drivers for a direct meeting with him to seek redressal of their grievances.

"I invite all drivers to meet me directly at the Netaji Indoor stadium on this Wednesday at 1 pm. I will listen to all their problems but they have to promise me that passengers will not be inconvinenced in future and they will follow the no refusal guideline," Mitra told reporters here.

He said that the government had no clue about the wild cat strike called by some taxi drivers two days ago.

"22 drivers were jailed that day. We will not forgive them if passengers get into trouble," Mitra said.

There are around 42000 yellow taxis and 6000 new white taxis running in Kolkata.

On Thursday, taxi drivers in Esplanade area of the city, without any prior notice, suddenly declared that they were on strike alleging "misbehaviour and torture" by traffic police personnel.

"We will listen to all their grievances and find solutions how to address it," the minister said.
