Trapped Chinese coal miner rescued alive after 17 days

The survivor, who was reached by rescuers early today, is in a stable condition after receiving treatment in a local hospital, official Xinhua news agency reported.

Twenty-eight miners were working underground at the time of the flood in Heilongjiang Province on May 2.

Ten managed to escape and 10 have been confirmed dead.

The rescuers saved five people and are still searching for the remaining three.
