Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today asked the Centre to declare the very severe cyclone storm 'Hudhud' that hit the state's coast as a national calamity and also sought an ad hoc relief package of Rs 2,000 crore.
At a review meeting on rescue and relief measures with heads of departments at Secretariat here, Naidu said he has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
The Chief Minister said that the government was able to reduce loss of life due to the precautionary measures taken, and directed officials to take up restoration works pertaining to power poles, transformers, railway lines, tanks and reservoirs on a war-footing from tomorrow.

Naidu said that the Central Cabinet secretary appreciated the State government's efforts in using technology for disaster management.
