The Trial run of famous Sri Natarajah temple car, renovated at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore by the Pachaiappa trust, was held here today.

Two temple cars made by Philanthrophist Pachaiappa Mudaliar 375 years ago, were badly in need of wear and tear over the years, secretary of the Trust, Rajagopal and President Jayachandran told reporters here.

Steps were taken to renovate the cars of Sri Natarajar and Goddess Sivakamasundari by the trust officials in 2013. A large team of carpenters and artisans from Tiruvarur and Kancheepuram took up the renovation works.

The car of Goddess Sivakamasundarai, renovated at a cost of Rs 55 lakh, was used during the 'Ani Tiurmanjana' festival early this year, the trust officials said.

The 21 feet high car of Lord Natarajar, trial run for which has been held today, will be pulled by devotees around car streets during the Arudhra festival on January 4, next year, they said.
