There has been no reduction in the funds for tribals and the Centre has already disbursed up to 40 per cent of the money to the states, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said today.

During the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha, opposition members raised questions relating to the deaths of some tribals in the East Godavari district reportedly due to the outbreak of food poisoning in May-June.

He said a total of 16 deaths were reported from May 29 to June 21.

"A field investigation was carried out and appropriate action has been taken. The village Chaparai from where the problem was reported is situated on the hill top with no proper road connectivity and communication," Oram said.

Responding to questions, he said there has been no cut in the tribal budget.

He said up to 40 percent of the money has already been given to the states.
