Tribal kids died of illness, not malnutrition: health official

Denying media reports on alleged malnutrition-related death of two tribal children in Baran, a senior district health official today said the Saharia duo died of "broncho pneumonia".

"Rajendra (3) and Shivraj (2) were admitted to the government hospital, in Baran on October 26 following complaints of stomach ache and fever," Chief Medical and Health Officer Brijesh Goyal told PTI on telephone.

Shivraj died on the same day and Rajendra succumbed last night due to broncho pneumonia, inflammation of the lungs, the CMHO said.

A preliminary report on patients, prepared by junior medical officers, stated that the boys died of illness and not of any malnutrition, CMHO claimed.
