At least three tribal students, who were part of a group that had come to meet Tribal Development Vishnu Sawra, were allegedly assaulted by unknown persons in Wada town today, police said.
The group of 25 students from various cities living in tribal boarding hostels was trying to hold a protest outside the residence of Sawra.
However, before they could begin their protest on poor condition of hostels at the venue, they were picked up by police and taken to police station.
After a while, the three students went out of the police station to bring food for others when they were allegedly attacked by unknown persons in the market.
Police have registered a case under various sections of IPC.
Meanwhile, Prashant Bodke, president of the Bharatiya Adivasi Panther, alleged that the attack was carried out by hired goons at the behest of the minister.
A local organisation of tribals has organised a morcha tomorrow in protest against the minister.
