A 40-year-old woman was arrested allegedly carrying a consignment of five country-made pistols to deliver to an unidentified person in Sendhwa area in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, police said today.
A man who was accompanying the woman, however, managed to escape, an official said.
"Acting on a tip-off, we intercepted Leela Bai, a tribal from Palsud area, accompanied by one Depal Singh, while they were walking down to Sendhwa area to deliver the arms. We found five country-made pistols in her bag," Inspector J N Kanas of Palsud police station said.
He added that Singh fled on spotting the police and efforts were on to nab him.
"Both were walking to deliver the pistols to somebody in Sendhwa, about 30 kilometres from Palsud," Kanas added.
He said that investigations were underway to find out more details of the arms racket.
