Tribal woman gets life sentence for murder

A court today sentenced a tribal woman to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering a man in 2014.

Additional sessions judge of Mayurbhanj district's Rairangpur sub-division, Aurobindo Kumar Guru, found Padma Birua (48) guilty of murder and sentenced her to life sentence and slapped a fine of Rs 2000.

The woman had attacked Mohinikanta Hembram with an iron rod while he was sleeping at home over an old enmity.

After six days, the victim succumbed to injuries at the SCB Medical College, Cuttack.

Padu Hembram, the son of the deceased, had lodged an FIR with Badampahar Police Station.

Based on the statements of the 16 witnesses and circumstantial evidences, the court passed the order.
