Tribunal clears Abbasi to contest NA elections from Islamabad

Pakistan's former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was today allowed by an election tribunal of the Islamabad High Court to contest the National Assembly elections from capital Islamabad.

Abbasi was barred by the election officials from contesting polls from NA-53 constituency in the capital due to technical reasons as his affidavit was not properly filled in.

He challenged it in a special election tribunal where his plea was accepted by judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, according to court officials.

After hearing the argument, the tribunal rejected the objections of the election officials and allowed Abbasi to contest form NA-53 Islamabad.

Abbasi is also contesting from a seat in Rawalpindi where his nomination papers were accepted.

 

He was appointed as premier after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in on July 28, 2017.
