Tributes paid to Jaywantiben Mehta

Several senior leaders of BJP and RSS, including Union I&B Minister Venkaiah Naidu, today paid tributes to former union minister Jaywantiben Mehta here this evening.

Mehta, a veteran BJP leader from the city, died at the age of 78 on November 7.

Mumbai BJP chief Ashish Shelar said Mehta was known as 'Bhuleshwar no Bhawani' (Bhawani of Bhuleshwar) and 'Durga of Dakshin Mumbai'.

She used to say that her entire career was unblemished and that was her biggest achievement, Shelar reminisced.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP MP Gopal Shetty, Maharashtra ministers Vinod Tawde, Vidya Thakur, the late leader's family members and many others attended the condolence meet.
 

Recounting her long association with Mehta, Mahajan said, "Her entire familial and political journey was free of controversy. She lived a balanced life with full dedication and commitment on all fronts, which everyone needs to follow (as an example).
