Tributes paid to martyrs of Kargil Vijay Diwas in Puducherry

Political leaders and retired army officers paid floral tributes to Kargil war martyrs here today on the 17th anniversary of 'Kargil Vijay Diwas.'

PWD Minister A Namassivayam along with Health and Tourism Minister Malladi Krishna Rao, Welfare Minister M Kandasamy and Deputy Speaker V P Sivakolundhu paid rich tributes to the deceased soldiers at the Kargil war memorial here.

Director General of Police Sunil Kumar Gautam, Commandant of Indian Coast Guard TS Sajwan, officials of the NCC Group Headquarters and representatives of various ex-servicemen outfits were among those who paid tributes.

The battle took place between India and Pakistan in May-July 1999. The conflict was triggered after Pakistani soldiers managed to occupy key positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control in Kargil sector.
 

It had officially come to an end on July 26, 1999.
