Trinamool Congress today complained to the State Election Commission accusing former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and a section of the intellectuals of campaigning in favour of a particular political party even after the campaigning for tomorrow's municipal poll has ended.
TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee in his complaint said that by doing this the intellectuals were 'misguiding' the masses in clear violation of the model code of conduct.
"A section of intellectuals are behaving as if they are flag-bearers of a particular political party. They are misguiding the masses. Even after campaigning has stopped, they are campaigning in favour of a certain political party. They have violated the model code of conduct."

Chatterjee's complaint apparently was in response to Somnath Chatterjee's appeal to the people of West Bengal to take to streets to get back their "lost rights".
The TMC secretary-general described this as a "sinister propaganda to malign the TMC and its achievements" and said "the intellectuals are speaking in such a manner as if democratic rights of the masses have been brutalised during the polls."
The former Lok Sabha Speaker had yesterday said,"There is no option but to put up resistance against what's going on in West Bengal. I do not want any violence or bloodshed while doing that. People have to take to the streets to build up a resistance to reclaim their freedom of speech and expression."
He was speaking at an "open forum" set up to protest against alleged violence in the April 18 election to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
