Opposition leader Suryakanta Mishra today alleged that a number of MPs and ministers from the ruling Trinamool Congress are involved in the chit fund scam in West Bengal.

"Saradha scam is the biggest scam in the state in which, a number of TMC ministers and MPs are involved," Mishra told a rally here.

"Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is also responsible for this. She was distributing bicycles and ambulances, which were provided by chit-fund company Sarada Group. Now she is saying that she didn't know anything about Saradha Group before 'Poila Baisakh', Bengali New year. She is confusing the common people by saying this," he alleged.

Demanding an exemplary punishment for those involved in the Saradha scam, he denied allegations that most of chit fund companies were born in the Left Front government regime.

"We arrested the owner and his associates of Sanchayita chit fund in 1993. We lodged a case against Sanchayita in High Court. After this incident, we made a strong law on the chit funds and sent it to the President for approval," Mishra added.

Criticising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mishra said when she was not in power, she used to demand CBI enquiry in all incidents.

But unfortunately, she is not demanding any CBI enquiry now, she said.

On the vandalism in Presidency University, he said Finance Minister Amit Mitra didn't condemn the incident.

"If he is a gentleman, he should condemn it," he said.

Mishra alleged that Banerjee is trying to stop college, municipal and Panchayat elections.

"If the panchayat elections are not held, we will bring development in rural area by making Gram Sangsad," he added.
