In a daring daylight robbery, a three-member gang today looted Rs 37 lakh after firing at a cash van and killing a security guard in Nabha town of the district, police said here.
Quoting eye-witnesses, police sources said a cash van of Security India Private Limited reached the ATM of State Bank of Patiala near Alohran Gate, less than a km from a police station and 30 kms from here, around 12:30 PM and an unidentified person was standing nearby.
Two persons on a motorcycle arrived at the spot within minutes and along with the unidentified person, opened fire and killed the security guard, the sources said.

The shopkeepers tried to stop the miscreants, but the trio fled with the money, they said.
The guard, Ranbir Singh of Rajgarh village, was killed when he tried to stop the robbers, while a security agency employee, Anirudh Tiwari, was injured in the firing, they said.
Investigation in the matter is on, police said.
Meanwhile, the residents of the town alleged that their SHO, Devinder Attri, has not been spending much time in Nabha as he was busy with the Special Investigation Team which was investigating cases of arrested alleged drug lord Jagdish Bhola.
The residents of Nabha have alleged that incidents of snatching are on the rise in the city "due to less police deployment".
