In a brazen attack, three persons allegedly opened fire on two Delhi Police constables late this evening in the busy Connaught Place area in the heart of the national capital.
In all, five rounds were fired -- four by the assailants and one by the policemen -- but luckily nobody was hurt in the shopping area which was bustling with the Saturday evening crowd.
One of the attackers was caught but the two remaining associates managed to flee, police said, adding that the incident took place at 9:05 P.M. Near Super Bazar, Mayur Bhavan, in Connaught Place.

"As the constables gave chase, the trio opened fire on them. One shot was also fired by a constable in retaliation but nobody sustained any bullet injury.
"However, constable Prateek sustained a minor injury when he fell during the chase. One suspect has been detained who has said during questioning that he hails from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh," Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) MK Meena told PTI.
The attacker who was caught was roughed up by locals.
"We are interrogating the arrested person and efforts are on to nab the remaining two accused," said another official.
The incident sparked panic in the area and saw a massive manhunt being launched by police for nabbing the other two accused. Senior police officials had reached the spot to supervise the efforts.
