Tripura's Left Front government has adopted 'wait and see' policy before implementing the Food Security Ordinance in the state.

'The council of ministers in it's meeting yesterday decided to wait for a few more days before implementing the Food Security Ordinance in Tripura. The meeting resolved to wait and see the decision of the Parliament regarding the ordinance before implementing it in the state,' Finance Minister Badal Choudhury told reporters here today.

'We have got a six months time in hand before we have to implement it and the deadline extends till January 04, 2013,' Chowdhury said.

The Food Security Bill, in its current form, would be hard to get passed in Parliament, he said.

'We are not ready to accept that over 16 lakh people of the state would be kept out of the purview of PDS at the first phase. The state government wants its entire people and all citizens of the country to get benefits of PDS,' he said.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhanulal Saha said, 'We have already communicated our views to the Central government and shall again give our opinion on the NFSO. If the food security scheme is implemented in Tripura, 16 lakh people would not get benefits of the PDS.
