Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony and peace.

Hoisting the tri-colour at the Assam Rifles ground here, he said "the forces, which are against communal harmony and peace are active. We have to maintain and protect the communal harmony and peace at any cost and have to be vociferous against the divisive forces."

Sarkar said, it was time for self introspection that why the country, even after 70 years of independence was going backward.

"I find a clear division between the rich and poor. 10 per cent people of the country are the owner of 60-70 per cent wealth of the country and 80 per cent people are poor in our country," he said.

He said there was no difference between the previous UPA government and the present NDA government in terms of economic policy and as a result the dimension of exploitation had become more acute.

Sarkar congratulated gymnast Dipa Karmakar on her performance in Rio olympics. "She made a history for the country and made us proud. I wish her more success in future," he said.
