Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today set a target of achieving three-fold the growth rate of Mamata Banerjee ruled West Bengal in the next three years.
Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress supremo, had downplayed the BJP's victory in neighbouring Tripura on March 3 saying there is nothing to rejoice in the win in a state having only about 26 lakh voters and two parliamentary seats.
"The government would achieve three times the growth rate of Bengal in the next three years and prove to Mamata Banerjee that size of a state does not always matter," Deb said while addressing bureaucrats on the occasion of the Civil Services Day.
The Trinamool Congress had ousted the 34-year-old Left Front government in West Bengal in 2011, while the BJP-IPFT coalition unseated the Manik Sarkar led Left Front ministry after 25 years.
"Didi is Didi. She had said the BJP has done nothing special in Tripura.... But I feel a government is government at the end of the day, irrespective of the state's size," Deb said.
He urged bureaucrats to join the task of developing Tripura into a model state by the next three years.
"I do not want anyone seeing my government as small. As per the Constitution, the government of Tripura has the same power as that of West Bengal. I shall show her (Banerjee) that we can achieve three times growth rate by three years," the CM said.
Though April 21 is observed as the Civil Service Day, its was observed in the state today.
