Tripura Rural Development minister Jitendra Chaudhury today expressed his dissatisfaction over delay in release of funds by the Central government for implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in the state.
"The Central government is not regular in releasing necessary funds which led to a lot of trouble in implementing the Central government's flagship programme. We are managing continuity of work as of now with money from our state plan fund," Chaudhury told reporters.
The minister recently visited several districts of the state to oversee the implementation of MGNREGA works including Gomati, South Tripura, West Tripura and Khowai districts.
He said that the state government is committed to provide a total of 100 mandays in a year under the NREGA scheme.
"Tripura is the national topper in implementing NREGS for last several years. We generated 87 mandays - the highest in the country. It is sad that the Central government hasn't released timely funds to Tripura for better performance in the scheme," he said.
The Tripura Rural Development minister said the state government was expecting Rs 400 crore as the first instalment of NREGS fund released but the state received only Rs 58 crore which according to him is much less and came in the way of implementing the works.
