The Tripura government today announced revised compensation for victims of crimes against women in eleven categories, including acid attacks, rape, molestation, human trafficking, loss of foetus and fertility.
The decision to enhance compensation amount than that existed during previous Left Front government in the state was taken at a meeting of the cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb here.
Briefing about the cabinet decision, state Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath told reporters the revised benefits were adopted in line with the central government decision in 2016.
The centre has already released Rs 1.15 crores to the state under Central Victim Compensation Fund (CVCF) to allow the revised benefits, he added.
The rate of Crime against women was high during the regime of the Left Front, but Its graph has dwindled. We want to lower it further and deliver justice to victims at the same time. The meeting of the council of ministers took these decisions for benefit of tortured women, rape survivors and other victims of crimes on women, Nath said.
He said that acid attack victims would get Rs 3 lakh as compensation. The amount was same during the rule of the erstwhile Left Front government.

However, compensation was raised from Rs 50,000 to Rs two lakh for rape victims. Minor victims of physical abuse would get Rs two lakh now instead of the previously available compensation of Rs 20,000.
The left government had provisions of granting Rs 20,000 compensation for rehabilitating human trafficking victims. The amount has been revised to Rs one lakh.
Survivors of molestation or other sexual assault barring rape would now be given Rs 50,000. There was no provision of compensation for them previously.
In case of death of any girl or woman due to attacks including sexual assaults, a compensation of Rs one lakh was being paid till now. The cabinet today revised it to Rs two lakh.
In case of permanent disability, victims would now get Rs two lakh instead of Rs 50,000 and those suffering from temporary disability would be granted Rs one lakh. The latter did not get any compensation as per previous provisions.
The revised list of compensation will also grant Rs two lakh to victims of burn injuries except acid attacks, Rs 50,000 to those who lost their foetus while surviving assaults and Rs 1.5 lakh to women who have lost fertility due to attacks on them.
Additionally, any victim of crime on women below 14 years of age would get compensation increased by 50 percent compared to the announced benefits.
Asked if victims who have sought compensation on previous attacks would be able to avail revised benefits, the minister said his government would consider all such petitions.
