With the commissioning of the country's third International Internet Gateway (IIG) after Chennai and Mumbai, Tripura stands close to be an IT hub, according to experts.
"The first pre-condition of any IT hub is the high-speed internet connectivity which Tripura is going to get as the state is being connected with Bangladesh through submarine cable," C Subramanya, Chief Technology Officer of Hinduja Global Solutions Limited told an Information Technology conclave here yesterday.
Governor Tathagata Roy, who inaugurated the conclave, said the state had potential human resources to make it an IT hub, but building of infrastructure was necessary.

"We do not have plenty of resources, but with the help of the semi-conductor industry and computer manufacturing, design and packaging, Taiwan has been able to make a mark in the global market," he said.
Among others, Chief Secretary Y P Singh also spoke in the function and stressed the need for better economic and trade relation with Bangladesh, which has 856 km long international border with Tripura.
