Tripura to provide rice at Rs 2 per kg

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the decision to provide rice at the rate of Rs. 2 through Public Distribution System (PDS) from August one was taken at the meeting of the Council of ministers held yesterday.

He said 1,81,876 ration card holders living under BPL category who were sold rice at the rate of Rs.6.15 would get rice at Rs.2 per kg and the people who were getting rice under Antodyay Annoyojana category at the rate of Rs. 3 per kg would also get rice at Rs. 2 per kg. The number of cards under Antodyay Annayojana category is 1,13,124.

 

Sarkar said altogether 15 lakh people in the state would be benefited from the scheme. Population of Tripura is 3,671,032 of which 68per cent people are in the BPL category.

Reacting sharply to this announcement, President of Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Sudip Roy Burman said,
