Addressing a public meeting organised by Congress' women's wing, she claimed, without quoting any figure, that crime against women in the state topped the list of National Crime Records Bureau.

The information of torture on women does not reach to police stations as the victims were threatened by the criminals of dire consequences, Dasmunsi alleged.

Even if some women dared to lodge complaints in police station, no action was taken because the ruling party ordered them to remain inactive, she claimed.

The chief minister of Tripura, who also holds the home portfolio, could not evade the responsibility as law and order is a state subject, the minister said.

She appealed to the women to fight against the 'misrule' of the CPI-M and install a government led by Congress in the coming elections due in February.
