Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today called for a shut down (bandh) in Mahabubnagar district to protest against alleged attempts by the Andhra Pradesh government "to stall" the Palamuru lift irrigation project.

Taking exception to Andhra Pradesh government's letter to the Centre on the Palamuru lift irrigation project, Telangana Industries Minister Jupally Krishna Rao and other leaders called for a shut down in Mahabubnagar district tomorrow.

They alleged that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is doing gross injustice to the backward Mahabubnagar district, and said that no force can stop the Telangana government from going ahead with the Palamuru irrigation project.

Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao also lashed out against AP CM with regard to the issue.

"When an effort is made to build a good project, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is writing letters to the Centre to stall the project. They are writing letters to Telangana irrigation principal secretary asking how you will build this project.

"You (Naidu) adopted Palamuru district for nine years, but did nothing, though you started Pattiseema without permission. We took the view that both should live and did not complain," he said.

Incidentally, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao laid the foundation for the project last month.

The project seeks to irrigate about 10 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar, Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts.
